Twelfth century accounts tell of the establishment of the monastic tradition on Bardsey by Cadfan and Lleuddad in the early sixth century. Relatively little is known about this early period, though there seem to have been strong, subservient links with the quasi-monastic community of Aberdaron known as the clas.
