The Bardsey Island Trust is formed to buy the island, to “protect its beauty, its human and spiritual heritage, its wildlife and the traditional farming system”. On the basis of this commitment, many public and private donors contribute to a successful appeal to buy the island in 1978. Soon after, the Trust sets about restoring the farmhouses so they can be let to staying visitors.
